AI, or artificial intelligence, has become a popular way for businesses to create content for their website easily. While it is a great tool to use, it does have both pros and cons. Let’s dig deeper into how AI works, its positives, its negatives, and Intrada’s recommendations when using it.

AI-generated content is copy such as blogs, marketing materials, articles, and product descriptions written by a machine or robot. The AI content creator then produces content based on what you input, whether specific keywords, the type of voice you are looking for the article to take on, and/or any precise phrases you want to be included.

Like with how our Google-driven world wide web works, content creation is based on specific algorithms. AI algorithms are used to quickly generate content that can be incorporated into blog posts, social media posts, creative stories or articles, catchy email subject lines, and Google ads descriptions, to name a few.

Pros and Cons of AI-generated content

AI content creators can be invaluable tools for businesses and individuals in creating digital content. With the help of AI technology, users can produce quality content quickly and efficiently without needing to put in a lot of time or effort personally. However, there are a few drawbacks associated with using AI content creators.


Pros

Some pros of AI-generated content include time savings (more efficient), cost-effectiveness, improvement of your SEO, and can help writers when they come across the dreaded ‘writer’s block.’

Time Savings and Cost Effectiveness
AI-driven content creation enables companies to save time and money by automating the writing process. Less time equals less money. This technology also allows writers to focus on creating engaging content that can easily resonate with readers. With the continued advances in AI technology, website content creation can become more automated and efficient, and businesses should take advantage of this tool in one way or another. By leveraging AI for digital and website content creation, companies can boost consumer engagement, increase leads, drive traffic, and ultimately achieve their desired business outcomes. 

SEO Improvement
AI content generators allow you to utilize keywords in your blog post or article for your website without sounding like you just placed a keyword to have it in there. And while keywords are high on the list of website content inclusion and strategy importance, the number of words for Google to recognize you and to increase your ranking has changed.  Semrush wrote a recent blog post about the recommended sizes of different articles. For example, a press release should be anywhere from 400-600 words; a news article should be 600-1,000 words; a blog post (like this one) is recommended to be between 1,000 and 1,500 words; and a guide or how-to article should run around 1,500-2,500 words. They indicated that while a longer article is nice and sometimes preferred, it isn’t always best. They suggest that producing an article size that fits your audience’s needs is key, and some shorter articles can have more engagement than longer articles.

Writer’s Block Support
How many times have you had writer’s block? The question is, who hasn’t?  You knew what you wanted to say but couldn’t put it into words. AI content creators can genuinely help with this issue. They can help create a central idea to get your brain focused again.

So while AI content creators can speed up the writing process, improve SEO and assist with writer’s block, it does have its downsides.

Content can sound like a robot wrote it
One downside to using an AI-generated piece of content is that it may not have the personalized touch you would get with a human writer. The content can sound like a robot wrote it simply because a robot wrote it. It can lack personality, and creativity, sound monotonous and become repetitive. Artificial intelligence doesn’t think creatively as humans do, and its output may lack some nuances and subtleties that come with human-created content.  This can be off-putting to some and make them less likely to engage with the material. Additionally, since AI is programmed by humans and therefore has limited capabilities, it may not be able to produce content as effectively as a human writer could.

Editing is still necessary
Since the content can sound plain, robotic and seem like it is a record that is stuck just saying the same line differently three times, editing by a human is undoubtedly necessary.

Algorithms can dimmish content value
Because the content generated can sound robotic, algorithms can recognize that, and while your article may be longer, quality is valued more than quantity is these instances.
